State Legislators Bickering Amongst Themselves

State Legislators Bickering Amongst Themselves And Not Addressing Real Issues In Illinois!

May 25, 2013
By Associated Press (posted in-part):

"Heading into the final week of the legislative session, Democrats are split on some of the state's biggest issues, from the nation's worst pension crisis to the public possession of guns, gay marriage and gambling expansion. Lawmakers also have yet to get a deal on the state budget, the expansion of Medicaid or how to regulate a high-volume oil and gas drilling process known as "fracking."

Democrats made gains in the November election, adding enough seats to their existing majorities to override a veto from Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn in both chambers. They now hold majorities of 40-19 in the Senate and 71-47 in the House. It takes 30 votes to pass legislation in the Senate and 60 votes in the House.

Holding a majority hasn't historically meant Democrats have been able to do whatever they like. On issues such as guns, legislators tend to split more along geographic lines, with lawmakers from outside of Chicago siding more with Republicans. And this session there are several Democrats in each chamber whose districts flipped from the Republican column. Those lawmakers tend to vote more conservatively than legislators from longtime Democratic strongholds.

Given those realities, the Senate's top Republican, Sen. Christine Radogno, said the Democrats' divisions were "pretty predictable."

"There's a lot of diversity within their caucuses," she said. "It's not surprising they're having troubles.""

IS THIS WHAT YOU EXPECTED LEGISLATORS, LIKE LARRY WALSH JR., TO DO IN SPRINGFIELD... SQUABBLE, BICKER, FAIL TO TACKLE REAL ISSUES (DEBT, TAXES, SPENDING)?  THINGS AREN'T BETTER WITH A DEMOCRAT SUPER-MAJORITY SO YOU HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE TO SET OUR DISTRICT 86 AND THE STATE BACK ON THE RIGHT COURSE IN 2014!

Thank The McGuire Walsh Jr. Team For Explosive Increase In Illinois Food Stamps

Thank The Jack McGuire / Larry Walsh Jr. "Team" For Explosive Increase In Illinois Food Stamps

5/21/13
This week the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board discussed the massive increase in food stamp usage in Illinois (as discussed by the Chicago Magazine).

"The number of TANF recipients in Illinois has risen by 21 percent in the last 10 years, from 108,528 people in 2003 to 131,497."

That's a 21% increase of citizens not able to find suitable employment to provide for food for themselves and their families.

"Participation rates are much higher than they were 10 years ago. In other words, not everyone who's eligible actually bothers to receive food stamps. In 2003, the national rate was 56 percent. In 2010, it was 75 percent nationwide and 80 percent in Illinois. (In 2010, only five states had participation rates over 90 percent.)"

20% INCREASE

"In 2003, around 1.5 million people in Illinois were eligible, and around 60 percent participated. In 2010, the most recent year for which estimates are available, around two million people were eligible, and around 80 percent participated."

"The unemployment rate in Illinois in January 2003 was 6.6 percent; in January 2013 it was nine percent, with almost 200,000 more people unemployed than ten years ago."

Over the past 10 years former District 86 (Joliet, Illinois) House Representative Jack McGuire was an Assistant House Majority Leader.  In April 2012, he handed his seat to friend of the family Larry Walsh Jr., and, unemployment has been worse!

It is understandable for those who need assistance with feeding their families, however, with HIGH unemployment of 9.3-to-9.5% handing our Illinois families cash for food (i.e. Food Stamps) doesn't make these Representatives special... It's just the opposite... These Representatives have failed the citizens of District 86, who can no longer find employment and afford to eat.  This is an epic failure.

District 86 Citizens Deserve Better Than Larry Walsh Jr.!

Illinois State Medical Society Says No To Expanded Prescriptions But Pat McGuire Says Yes!

Joliet Illinois State Senator, Pat McGuire (D-IL Joliet) voted "YES" to expand medical prescriptions to non-medically trained psychologists...

In an an editorial news article by Eldon A. Trame, MD, president, Illinois State Medical Society, he urges the General Assembly to vote "NO", but Pat McGuire who apparently knows better than the medical society votes "YES" anyway... Read:

"5/13/13

The Illinois Legislature is on the verge of putting thousands of Illinoisans with mental and emotional conditions at serious risk if it passes legislation allowing non-medically trained psychologists to prescribe powerful and potentially dangerous psychotropic drugs.

The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 2187, has passed the Senate and could be voted on soon in the House of Representatives. Forty-eight other states prohibit psychologists from prescribing these drugs, which are among the most powerful in medicine. They’re prescribed to treat mental and emotional conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and clinical depression.

Allowing non-medically trained psychologists to prescribe such powerful drugs is like allowing someone who’s never piloted an airplane to fly a 747. Patient care requires collaboration between many members of the health care team, and psychologists play an important role. However, the simple truth is they do not have the biomedical education similar to that of health professionals currently authorized to prescribe, such as physician assistant and nurse practitioners. A proposed pharmacology “Cliffs Notes” type of course is far inferior to the in-depth medical education physicians undertake.

Doctors urge the Illinois House of Representatives to vote “no” on S.B. 2187.

Sincerely,

— Eldon A. Trame, MD, president, Illinois State Medical Society"

As you can see Senator Pat McGuire, who has already earned a grade for D- for the business/jobs environment in Illinois, asserts his expert medical opinion and votes against the wishes of the Illinois State Medical Society!

Citizens of Joliet/Will County, you deserve better than Pat McGuire!

Property Tax Relief Gets Tabled The Same Day As Pension Shifts Are Discussed

Property Tax Relief Gets Tabled The Same Day As Pension Shifts Are Discussed

Read posting Rep. David McSweeney:

"McSweeney Calls on Speaker Madigan to Release Property Tax Relief Bill

Springfield –On the same day a special House committee heard testimony on a pension cost shift proposal to local school districts, state Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) had his property tax relief bill blocked by the House Rules Committee.  McSweeney’s amended bill, Senate Bill 1937, is a proposal for Illinois residents living within township governments to get a 2-year property tax levy freeze and it also provides tax relief for seniors living with people with disabilities.

“We are here discussing a pension cost shift today, which will result in yet another property tax increase,” said McSweeney. “Residents have had enough. Property taxes are through the roof at a time when home values and the market haven’t recovered.  My bill would provide tax relief now and the bill deserves a fair shake.”"
