Government Waste and Spending by Larry Walsh Jr. Uncovered

Government Waste Is Uncovered Showing Larry Walsh Jr. and Prior District 86's Representatives Wasteful Spending At Taxpayer Expense

Illinois Policy Institute (IPO) and Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) Release 2012 Piglet Booklet Highlighting Wasteful Government Spending.

“The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) racked up a cable bill of $2,261,009 between July 2010 and June 2012. Popular channels included in this bill were MTV, CMT, Fox Sports, ESPN, BET, the Home Shopping Network, Speed and Spike TV.

The taxpayer cost of prisons per inmate in Illinois ($38,268) is high relative to other states in the Midwest: Indiana ($14,823), Missouri ($22,350), Iowa ($32,925) and Wisconsin ($37, 994).” – IPO/CAGW.

But yet instead of trying to cut costs the Governor closed prisons and transferred and/or eliminated hundreds of employees who keep our prisoners safe and keep the community safe by keeping them inside prison walls.  Example… Joliet’s Illinois Youth Center.

“Private companies are raking in millions of taxpayer dollars from state-paid advertising. These companies capitalize on the fact that government agencies across Illinois have generous advertising budgets, compliments of taxpayers. Between 2011 and 2012, state-funded advertising cost Illinoisans more than $16 million, and it was spent on public announcements, billboards and magazine ads, among others.” – IPO/CAGW

---

“Illinois state government has 230 programs that provide state funds to nearly 7,000 units of local government in Illinois. The largest 11 programs alone provide more than $13 billion to local governments. The distribution of that money, across the entire state, makes it difficult to hold state and local governments accountable for their spending decisions.” - IPO/CAGW

MAKE NO MISTAKE GOVERNMENT DEBT HAS NOT CHANGED FROM 2010 TO 2013 (Under both Reps. McGuire and Walsh Jr.):

Art is important to our culture and remembering the history of our nation and our state, however, the Illinois General Assembly could have kept spending levels at 2010 or 2011 levels instead of increasing spending on these art institutions – thereby saving the state thousands upon thousands of dollars… examples of increases in spending:

National Museum of Mexican Art received
• $408,286 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.
• $525,982 in 2012 – Larry Walsh Jr. approved.
(That's over $100,000.00 in additional spending over the prior year, during our recession, of your tax dollars thanks to Larry Walsh Jr.)

Art Institute of Chicago received
•$60,000 in 2010 – Jack McGuire approved.
•$175,000 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.
(That’s over DOUBLE the spending during a recession and a state government which is in $8-Billion in debt in backlogs of bills).

$34,400 in new spending on specialty farms and teas: There is no reason to use taxpayer dollars to pay for fish farms or specialty herbal teas.  Examples:

Keo Fish Farm received
• $16,510 in 2010 – Jack McGuire approved.
• $16,510 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.
• $14,242 in 2012 – Larry Walsh Jr. approved.

Earth’s Natural Herbal Teas received
•$2,860 in 2010 – Jack McGuire approved.
•$2,147 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.

Ineeka Teas received
•$1,331 in 2010 – Jack McGuire approved.
•$750 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.
• $750 in 2012 – Larry Walsh Jr. approved.
(Business owners… Did you get an extra $750 from the state government to run your business in 2012?  That money could have paid one of your employee’s paychecks for a week or paid for equipment repairs or utility bills... Did you get it?  Ineeka Tea’s received it!  You can thank Larry Walsh Jr. for his wasteful spending.)

DuSable Museum of African-American History received
•$17,700 in 2010 – Jack McGuire approved.
•$72,777 in 2011 – Jack McGuire approved.
(That's 4-times more additional spending that Jack McGuire approved... all while voting YES in the same year to increase your individual income taxes by 67%.)

THANKS MCGUIRE and WALSH JR.
FOR CONTINUING TO WASTE OUR MONEY!
